2015 Metro Times Wine Store of the Year!
Here comes 2015 France!
South France vintage could be best in 50 years!
It's here! Domaine de la Bastide...
Save nearly 40% on an Argentine Cabernet!
"It's delicious!"
Just $7.99...

Be among the first to try an historic vintage!

The buzz from the wine world in southern France is that the 2015 vintage is going to be monumentally good, and here, literally, is Exhibit A. The first 2015s are making their way across the ol' pond and this one arrived this week. It is an oldie around here from Domaine de la Bastide in the Visan of the southern Rhone, an area that will likely receive it's own AOC appellation soon due to the distinctive and high-quality wines being made there.

"The 2015 vintage looks to be sensational everywhere in France with some regions reporting to have their best vintage in 50 years!" said Cloverleaf's Tom Natoci. "This wine could have been excused for being a bit raw, being so young. But it is already delicious and should be great for several years. This bodes tremendously well for all the French wines we'll be seeing from the region."

Domaine de la Bastide Cotes du Rhone Villages (Visan, France)
Reg. price: $15
Sale price: $11.99
Tom's note: "The 2015 Bastide Visan Cotes du Rhone Villages has a dark ruby/purple color.  A great nose of blackberry, violet and lavender.  Rich and lush on the palate with loads of dark berries and sweet provencal herbs.  Already soft and smooth in the lingering finish.  Great to drink today and over the next 4-5 years."

Recent hits, raves, and new discoveries...

2015 Tres Exilios Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza, Argentina)
Reg. price: $13
Sale price: $7.99
Tom's note: "All the classic dark berry fruits you'd expect from a good California Cabernet Sauvignon, except it's from Argentina, and it's eight bucks! It's got great balance. It's a really delicious glass of wine that would normally sell for much more.

2010 L'Arnesque Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Capelane (France)
Reg. price: $50
Sale price: $33.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "This wine is everything you want from a Chateauneuf: dark ruby color and a great nose of rich dark cherry and berry fruits without any jamminess that sometimes plagues this region in great vintages. On the palate there are copious amounts of  ripe dark cherry and blackberry notes complemented with black licorice, sweet Provencal herbs and a beautiful complex minerality that comes with the best wines of the region. I love this wine and when our next shipment comes in, I will buy some for myself to drink now and also cellar and follow for the next dozen or so years. I would rate this 94/100."

2013 Marramiero Incanto (Abruzzo, Italy)
Reg. price: $18
Sale price: $14.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "Dense, dark cherries, full-bodied, lush sweet herbs with a long, rich finish. Tastes like a $30 Riserva Chianti Classico. This is a GREAT WINE VALUE."

2015 Fazio Nerello Mascalese (Sicily)
Reg. price: $14
Sale price: $10.99 (nfd)
Tom's note: "Damson plums, tart cherries, sweet Mediterranean herbs, medium bodied, with a great clean finish."

2014 Fazio Nero d'Avola (Sicily)
Reg. price: $14
Sale price: $10.99
Tom's note: "Deep bold plum, notes of fruit cocktail. Reminiscent of a nice Cru Beaujolais. Medium- to full-bodied, also with a nice clean finish."

2014 Capiaux Pinot Noir Chimera
Reg. price: $38
Sale price: $29.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "The 2014 is just as sensational as the 2012.  The grapes for this vintage come from the Russian River Valley in Northern California. It has the same rich, dark cherry fruit along with notes of tea leaves, baking spices and a soft lush mouthfeel in the finish. It is a great glass of Pinot Noir!"

Tasting note from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "90 pts. The 2014 Pinot Noir Chimera comes from several Russian River sites and sees only 10% new oak. Its is a beautiful wine and Capiaux's biggest production item. It is a heck of a value for an outstanding Pinot Noir. Beautiful sassafras, pomegranate and black cherry notes intermixed with some damp earth and forest floor are all present in this wine, which also offers some baking spices and subtle background earth in its long, heady finish.  Drink it over the next 3-4 years."

2014 Bodegas Tridente Tempranillo (Castilla y Leon, Spain)
Reg. price: $20
Sale price: $14.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "Bold dark berry fruits and toasty oak aromas, rich and powerful on the palate, with great concentrated black berry fruit (and 15.5% alcohol), sweet aged balsamic, vanilla and roasted nuts. Lush, with smooth, savory tannins, it reminds me of a $30-$40 Napa Valley Cabernet!  It would be perfect with a charred ribeye."

2015 Chapoutier Bila-Haut Cotes de Roussillon Villages (France)
Reg. price: $16
Sale price: $12.99 (no further discounts)
Wine Tasting note from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "91-93 pts. The jaw-dropper in the lineup was the quality of the 2015 Haut Cotes de Roussillon Villages les Vignes de Bila Haut. While the entry level wine from this estate, the quality here is incredible, especially at the price point. Made from 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Carignan from a mix of the estate's terroirs, aged in concrete tanks and stainless steel, it offers a rich, concentrated and serious feel to go with fabulously pure notes of blackberries, black raspberries, crushed rock and melted licorice. Thick, unctuous and luxuriously textured, this will certainly be the greatest vintage of this cuvee to date.

2015 Metro Times Wine Store of the Year!
The blue and the gray...
A new Spanish wine from the Priorat...
One of most up-and-coming wine regions in the world...
Just $14.99...

Seems like they might be making some decent wine in this place...

Bluegray joins a growing club...

Dang, the hits just keep coming. Tom and Scott and the staff have always made it priority #1 to find the absolute best wines at the lowest possible prices, but this fall they've already brought you Tridente, Bila-Haut, Smuggler's Son, and other incredible values (details on these wines are below). Now you can add Bluegray from Orowines to that lineup.

Bluegray is made in the Priorat region of northeast Spain, one of only two regions (Rioja) designated DOCa, the highest qualification in Spain. In recent years, along with a general renaissance of all Spanish wines, wines of the Priorat have risen from an almost-unknown status to some of the most expensive wines in the world. Climate and soil conditions in northeast Spain are hot and dry, which leads to low yields in the vineyards and very concentrated fruit. Grenache is a key grape in the Priorat, and it is grown here better than almost anywhere in the world, to the quality of Grenache-based Chateauneuf du Pape of France's Mediterranean coast, where it is native.

Classic wines from Priorat are made of Grenache and Carinena, but modern winemakers such as those behind Bluegray are adding other varietals, such as Bordeaux-based Cabernet Sauvignon, to extremely satisfying results. We concur, and believe with great enthusiasm that you will thusly concur, too.

2012 Orowines Bluegray (Priorat, Spain)
Reg. price: $20
Sale price: $14.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "The 2012 Bluegray from Gil Family Estates is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 30% Mazuelo and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a classic blend of the wines from the bucolic region of the Priorat in Northeast Spain. Deep, dark, rich, and concentrated, it possesses bold dark berry flavors with a subtle kiss of oak sweetness and tannins.  This is a great red meat wine, enhancing both braised as well as grilled recipes.  A pleasure to drink today, it will age gracefully for at least another decade. A steal at $14.99!"

Tom's note:"Looks and smells like premier cru red burgundy, with tons of tart bing cherries, rhubarb, cranberries, tea leaves and minerals.  Good weight on the palate, with a beautiful balance of cherry fruit and tea notes. Great persistence in the finish, really reminds me of a premier cru red burgundy that we sell for $38.00! Last year, the previous release was a huge hit, many customers were asking about it for months after we sold out and could not get anymore."

2012 Bodegas Breca "Breca" (Calatayud, Spain)
Reg. price: $18
Sale price: $13.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "This wine is terrific!  It pours dark ruby-purple and has great aromas of black raspberry, cassis, provencal herbs & white pepper.  Gorgeous lush ripe fruits, subtle toasty vanilla notes and a long smooth finish.   If you like rich, full-bodied new world styled red wine, for $13.99, this wine can't be beat!"

2012 Chateau des Karantes Bergerie (La Clape, Languedoc, France)
Reg. price: $13.99
Sale price: $9.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "The 2012 Bergerie is a blend of 45% Syrah, 35% Grenache, and 20% Mourvedre. It has aromas of ripe black fruits, cracked black pepper, and sweet Provencal herbs. It is full-bodied and dense on the palate, loaded with blackberry and blueberry fruits, and a nice balance of smooth ripe tannins that will support a graceful 8-12 years of cellaring."

2013 Virgil's Vineyard Smuggler's Son Red Blend
Reg. price: $37
Sale price: $29.95
Tom's note: "The wine has an opaque, dark ruby color, ripe dark berry notes on the nose with a very nice, rich texture. Loads of sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors along with pretty notes of baking spices and soft tannins. Just a delicious, satisfying glass of full-bodied Napa Valley Red."

2014 Castello della Sala Bramìto Chardonnay
Reg. price: $19
Sale price: $15.99 (no further discounts)
Tom's note: "This smells like $40.00 French White Burgundy!  Beautiful aromas of lemon curd, toasted hazelnuts with some hints of vanilla and tropical fruits. On the palate, it has a nice rich texture, subtle flavors of pineapple, citrus, and roasted nuts with great crisp acidity.  This wine is a gorgeous hypothetical blend of elegant French White Burgundy and a top notch California Chardonnay at a steal of a price!"

2015 Domaine La Guarrigue Cuvee Romaine
Reg. price: $17
Sale price: $13.99
Tom's note: "Great nose of rich blue and black fruits, with hints of lavender and kirsch.  Still a bit grapey, but has great bold fruit and acid components in balance foreshadowing a great wine waiting to come together in a couple of months. It has beautiful density and texture reminding me of the 2009.  The wine drinks pretty well today, but I feel will be outstanding in 2-3 months and last for 7-10 years."
